1. Senior Veteran Men's Singles I/II (70+) 8:00 AM
This race holds three first place opportunities for age divisions 70 – 74, 75 – 79, and 80+. All three winners (Christopher Collins, Henry Hamilton, and Carlo Zezza) will return for the 2013 event but they'll be led by newcomer Landon Carter who moves up from the Veteran Division. Carter finished 2nd place in the Veteran II division in 2012 and won the Henley Masters Regatta this past July. He'll have to hold off Raymond Tollman, former GB National Team athlete at bow 35 and Larry Klecatsky, 27 time champion of the Head Of The Charles starting in the last position. This Regatta has seen its fair share of contenders from the back of the pack including 2012 Men's Championship Single winner Kjetil Borch who also started in the last seed.
2. Veteran Women's Singles I/II (60+) and Senior Veteran Women's Singles I/II (70+) 8:22 AM
With five age divisions represented in this event, the field is packed with 40 scullers and four returning divisional champions, Susan Kinne (V I), Laurette Lindlaub (V II), Brooke Stevens (SV I), and Eve Green (GV). SV II 2012 champion, Catherine Kemper is out with an injury leaving that division wide open. 2nd place finisher in 2012, Ruth Berenson will look to clench her first HOCR win. 2011 winner, Marie Hagelstein returns this year looking to reclaim her title at bow 22.
3. Veteran Men's Singles I/II (60+) 8:53 AM
Al Flanders leads this field after his win in the Vet I division in 2012. Gregg Stone, father of US Olympic Single Sculler Gevvie Stone and 2nd place finisher in the Vet I division in 2012 will chase him from bow 2. Winner of the Vet II division from last year and former British National Team member, Michael Tebay starts at Bow 10 and his strongest competition could come from former Japanese National Team athlete, Mr. Atsuji Adachi at bow 40. But watch out for the dark horse at bow 51, Jack Cheesesbro. He's medaled eight times at the HOCR but never in the single. He plans to keep competing until that happens!
4. Grand-Master Singles Men (50+) 9:22 AM
For the first time since 2006, the Men's Grand Master single will not be the first official race of the HOCR. Greg Benning, 7 time HOCR winner, leads the field with bow 1. He's racing for the ultimate glory, to be the only individual presently holding two course records. He'll have to beat the time of 18:54.3 set by Larry Klecatsky in 1992. He'll also have to hold off 2010 and 2011 winner Peter MacGowan at bow 2. Peter is rowing with renewed purpose in this year's event as he's dedicating his row to his colleague Michael Peckoo., recently diagnosed with Stage IV cancer.
5. Grand-Master Singles Women (50+) 9:51 AM
The race will be led by Lynn Jennings, Olympic Bronze medalist in the 10k run and winner of this event in 2012. Jennings set a course record in 2012 but will have to hold off three time winner and former record holder, Margaritta Zezza. Saiya Remmler moves into this division after five wins in the Women's Master 2x with former partner Theresa Zarzecny-Bell and will pose a serious threat from the middle of the pack at bow 16. Marie McCormack will also be back with a vengeance after a rotator cuff injury left her sidelined in 2012.
6. Senior Master Eights Men (50+) 10:17 AM
With the 6 year reign of Team Attager broken by Palm Beach last year, Fred Schoch and his band of boatmates have made the decision to move up an age division into the 60+ category. Palm Beach and Marin will battle for the title at bows 1 & 2. California Rowing Club could challenge from bow 18 with a new line-up comprised of the 1982 Cal Varsity and including several former National Team athletes. Meanwhile the 60+ race will see strong crews from the aforementioned Team Attager at bow 3, Melbourne University at bow 6, and Motley Rowing Club at bow 9.
7. Senior Master Women's Eights (50+) 10:34 AM
Marin is back hoping for a three-peat after ousting four-time former HOCR champions, Etats Unis back in 2011. Etats Unis will be close on their puddles at bow 2 with a stacked 1980 Rowing Club right behind them. With only one crew competing for the 60+ Grand Master Special Medal, Masters Rowing (bow 17) has this one in the bag. Watch out for dark horse California entry Long Beach at the back of the pack with bow 25.
8. Senior Master Men's Fours (50+) 10:49 AM
1980 leads this field after winning the event by almost 30 seconds in 2012. Hometown favorites, Riverside Boat Club, chase them with a modified and slightly younger line-up this year. But the dynamic duo of Chris Richards and Rich Sampson are back in the CBC entry at bow 5. This line-up won four back to back races in the Masters Four before Sampson went out with an injury. Rocky Mountain will have to battle traffic to contend with these top boats but you'll see Greg Ruckman, a formidable and familiar two-time Olympian in their stroke seat. 12 crews in this division will race for the Grand Master 60+ special medal but it could come down to two strong local contenders with the second RBC entry at bow 16 and the second CBC entry book-ending the field at bow 40.
9. Senior Master Women's Fours (50+) 11:04 AM
Orleans Sweeps & Sculls is back with the same line-up that destroyed this field by over 30 seconds in 2012. They'll be challenged by two time 2nd place finishers and local favorites, CRI at bow 2. But watch for two strong international crews at the back of the pack with Dresdber Ruderverein E.V., five time winners of the Women's Master Fours at bow 24 and Melbourne University Boat Club (MUBC) at bow 33. Conibear, winners of the GM 60+ Special Medal in 2012 is back to defend their title but they'll have competition from five other crews this year. Watercat, 5th place in 2012, is full of former Lightweight National team athletes hungry for a first place medal.
10. Senior Master Men's Doubles (50+) 11:32 AM
The top three doubles from this event-division in 2012 are all returning to battle-paddle it out. Ahead of the course record setting duo of Windeknecht and Daemen are two scullers moving up from the 40+ division, Gorriaran and Smith. These two won the Masters Double eight times in a ten year span and are the current course record holders in that division. This event will also include 14 entries competing for the 60+ special medal and 3 competing for the 70+ special medal including the 2012 winner's, Rob Slocum and Will Reimann. Washburn and Pritchett claimed the 60+ medal in 2012 also finishing 3rd overall in an incredibly deep and age-diverse field. This will be a great race to watch with speedy newcomers and veterans alike!
11. Senior Master Women's Doubles (50+) 11:51 AM
The top six doubles from this event-division in 2012 are all returning and will be led by the winning combination of Fran Tuite and Inge Stekl. After three years of dominating this division, they'll face some serious competition from Linda Muri and CB Sands-Bohrer. Two-time 60+ Special Medal winners Storrs/Dundas will face several new entries in this division. This division features quite the breadth of experience with two 70+ entries also competing for the Veteran Special Medal.
12. Senior Master Singles Men (40+) 12:11 PM
Last year we thought this would be a Riverside against Riverside spectacle but it ended with two incredible strong BU performances with Ross Cone taking the win and Tom Borher placing third. Bohrer has decided to return to the division instead of moving up to the 50+ category and at bow 2, Sean Wolf will continue to chase the ever-elusive HOCR gold while sandwiched between the two Terriers scullers. Also keep an eye on bow 17, Mike Wherley. This is his first time braving the single for the HOCR but he is a six-time winner of the Men's Championship Eight.
13. Senior Master Singles Women (40+) 12:23 PM
Lisa Weise moves into this division after aging up from the 30+ Masters event. She is a two-time winner of that division and placed 2nd in 2012 but her time seeds her back at bow 7 in the field of returning Senior Master Scullers. She'll likely pose the greatest threat to RBC sculler and 2012 winner of this division, Tina Vandersteel. Tina recently won the informal fall Head of the Kevin series and has shown great speed coming into this year's event. Maureen Harriman is also eager to hold the trophy in this division after two consecutive second place finishes.
14. Alumni Men's Eights 12:40 PM
Safety continues to be a priority for our Volunteers helping to guide these athletes through the start chute. This is by far the most diverse event at the HOCR pitting recent Olympians against reunion crews who haven't held an oar since the Reagan administration. After four straight wins in this division, Northeastern has a target on their bow. Crabtree (Cambridge Alumni) and Brown also return with stacked line-ups but they'll both have to fend off the blisteringly fast California Rowing Club entry at bow 5. Watch for the darkhorse Wisco alumni entry at bow 15. Their line-up boasts the USRowing James twins at stroke pair but they'll have to work their way through the tail end of the returning crews from 2012.
15. Alumnae Women's Eights 12:57 PM
University of Michigan leads this field at bow 1 after destroying the course record in 2012. This line-up would probably be medal contenders in the Women's Championship Eight division with a stacked stern four of current and formation National Team athletes. UVA and Yale (racing as Boola Boola) at Bows 2 and 3 could also throw down the alumni-heat. Outside of the top five, most crews in this field are just racing to make it into the top half to secure their 2014 entry.
16. Club Men's Fours 1:14 PM
Union Boat Club leads the charge in this division after a first place finish in 2012. They're no stranger to success in the Club Four with four wins in less than ten years. With 50 boats in this race, they'll face competition from strong club programs and eligible collegiate athletes. The Club Four is often a “locals” race with wins traded between Charles River boathouses. With Peterborough Boat Club (2010 and 2011 winners) in the Champ event, it could be anyone's race.
17. Club Women's Fours 1:39 PM
Last year's event saw less than one second separating first and third. All three entries are back with new line-ups so we could see some position changes in this division. TBC leads the race at bow 1 with a strong Boston Terriers crew chasing them down. Watch for bow 28, Union Boat Club. They've stacked this entry with some former fast Champ scullers who are finally club eligible. With strong Philadelphia program, Vesper Boat Club just a few bows behind them, they'll feel some pressure to work through the field quickly.
18. Club Men's Eights 2:04 PM
The top seven entries in this division are all from IRA programs with Brown leading the pack at bow 1. After setting the course record in 2012, they're eager for a third straight win. They'll be challenged by several former winners of this division with Yale University at bow 2, Harvard University at bow 9, and ASR Nereus (Dutch Program) at bow 37. The international favorites in this event are ASR, Skadi, and Shannon Rowing Club from Ireland.
19. Club Women's Eights 2:20 PM
2008 and 2012 winners of this divisions, Yale University, have moved their entry to the Champ division leaving bow 1 to the second place crew from last year, College of the Holy Cross. This division sees incredible turnover in the athletes and can be difficult to predict but expect strong performances from the club programs with 2011 winner, Riverside Boat Club at bow 3 and West Coast powerhouse, Pocock at bow 5. Sever strong DI and DIII College programs will challenge from the back of the pack with Bates College, Brown University, and Boston College at bows 22, 24, and 26 respectively.
20. Master Men's Fours 2:37 PM
Pocock showed incredible depth in this event-division in 2012 with a 1st place and a 3rd place finish. Palm Beach Rowing Club, 4 time winners of this division, is sandwiched between the two Pocock entries. Keep an eye on international wildcard, Crabtree Boat Club (bow 17), frequent medalists in the Alumni Eight who have recruited a local coxswain to help them navigate the field and the river.
21. Master Women's Fours 2:50 PM
Saugatuck Boat Club, winners of this division in 2000, 2004, and 2012 is back to prove they can do back to back wins. They'll have Potomac chasing them at bow 2 and Colorado Rowing with the high altitude training advantage at bow 3. Los Angeles Rowing Club is new to this division for 2012 and could oust the Connecticut champions. Their line-up includes Larissa Zavarina, who competed in the Russian pair in the Moscow Olympics.
22. Master Men's Eights 3:09 PM
Rowing legend Sir Matthew Pinsent is back in the Molesey boat leading this experienced and decorated field at bow 1. His crew set a course record in this division in 2012 and will have to hold off the strong Kennabasis crew, fielding several former Canadian National Team members. The second Shannon Rowing Club entry is also boasting a fast but suspiciously not-so Irish line-up and could pose a threat from bow 16. The two crews closing out this field could strike from the back of the pack. Diesel Athletic Club at bow 23 and Austrian Rowing Alumni at bow 24 both have line-ups including former national team athletes from the US and Austria. Get your sharpies out and buy an HOCR poster at FALS Docks when this event lands. There may be more former Olympians in this division than anywhere else at the HOCR.
23. Master Women's Eights 3:22 PM
Toronto Sculling Club is hoping for a three-peat this year to close out four wins in five years. They'll have BMA Boat Club (Cornell Alumni), the 2010 winners of this division and the only crew to break their streak of wins at bow 2. Despite the strength of these two crews, this event-division could be up for grabs with 7 new crews competing in 2013 including Quinsigamond Rowing Association (bow 12), East Bay Rowing Club (15), and Alexandria Rowing Club (bow 17).
24. Championship Men's Doubles 3:35 PM
Sam Stitt and Matthew Miller return to this division after their 2nd place finish in 2012 at bow 1. The 2012 event saw the fall of three-time champions, Tom and Peter Graves who got caught in weeds and veered severely off-course. Three of the top four finishing places in 2012 went to Olympic scullers representing the Great 8 and racing as Tideway Scullers and none of these athletes are returning. This year Stitt and Miller's competition will be of the local variety with Nick Trojan and Austin Meyer, the 2013 US Lightweight 2x at bow 3. Also keep an eye on two international entries new to the regatta with the Georgian National Team at bow 6 and the Mongolian Rowing Association at bow 8.
25. Championship Women's Doubles 3:46 PM
With few returning entries in this event, two elite scullers from Cambridge Boat Club's “Great 8” entry will lead the pack. Janssen and Lobnig will team up in bow 1 after racing against each other this summer in the singles event at World Championships. Chasing them will be the scullers from the Canadian Senior Quad, silver medalists at 2013 World Championships, broken into two doubles and competing as London Training Center. Sarah Schwegman and Marika Page at bow 4 are the only returning medalists (Lightweight) from 2012.
26. Collegiate Men's Fours 4:00 PM
Bow 5, Bowdoin College, will challenge for first in this event. Keep an eye on bow 11, Bates College, also coming down from Maine. Downing College, from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, will also be competitive at bow 16. Returning to defend their title, UVA Rowing Association at bow 1 will have strong competition to defend with.
27. Collegiate Women's Fours 4:14 PM
Always strong in the four, Bowdoin returns at bow 1 to defend. Hamilton College, bow 6, has also done well in this event and could be a top contender. Washington University Crew, bow 25, won this event two years ago and is returning to challenge after a one-year hiatus. Marquette University, bow 15, could also be one to watch.
28. Championship Men's Singles 4:31 PM
After winning this event from the very back of the pack, Kjetil Borch is back! He's fresh off a gold medal at the 2013 World Championships in the men's 2x and with clean water, we're hoping to see a course record time from this Norwegian Sculler. Borch's 2x partner, Nils Hoff has also made the trip to Boston this fall and will start at bow 4. Stephen Whelpley, the US Senior 1x representative finished just two seconds behind Borch at the 2012 HOCR and will return at bow 2. Also watch out for John Graves, brother of long-time Men's Championship Doubles winners Peter and Tom. He competed in the Men's 2x this summer at World Championships and has been posting fast times up in the Northern Kingdom. And let's not forget about Mahe Drysdale, winner of the 2011 HOCR and 2012 Olympic Gold medalist, back at bow 7.
29. Championships Women's Singles 4:41 PM
After three straight wins in this event-division, Gevvie Stone is back at bow 1. She's raced this event for Windsor, Princeton and, finally, Cambridge Boat Club and has won a total of 8 times. Ursula Grobler, who has raced at the Elite level for both the US and South Africa and won this event-division in 2009 will have to hold off recent World Championship silver medalist, Emma Twigg. Knapkova, 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist, will start at bow 5 and will also be competing on Sunday in the Women's Cambridge Boat Club “Great 8”. Also keep an eye out for former HOCR Lightweight 1x champion, Kristen Hedstrom, moving into the Championship category this year. Her 2x partner from their 2013 World Championship silver medal winning boat, Kate Bertko is seeded at bow 4, between two of the fastest female scullers in the world (Twigg and Knapkova).
30. Mixed Legs/Trunk/Arms Fours 8:00 AM
Star-studded line-ups in this year's LTA 4+ show the growing prowess of this event. Bow 1, Old Glory BC, boasts Natalie McCarthy, the bronze medalist from World Championships in the LTA 2x, as well as 3 athletes from the LTA 4+ at the World Championships. Natalie will be looking to beat her 2x partner, Paul Hurley, racing in bow 3 for Capital RC. The international dark horse, Balmain RC of Sydney, Australia, comes to the Charles for the first time, looking to make a name for themselves.
31. Mixed/Same Gender Trunk/Arms Doubles 8:17 AM
Bow 2, Medstar NRH Paralympic Sports Club, is one to watch with Daniel Ahr fresh from World Championships in Korea and Margaret Stran, the runner up from US Trials. Bow 1, Community Rowing, is the local favorite, but could be bested by the seasoned team of Jim Brooks and Bo Tanner in Bow 3. Returning for their second year from Sarasota, Florida, Bow 4 will be looking to make their mark.
32A. Club Men's Singles 8:39 AM
With 2012 winner Adam Bliss in the Lightweight event, this year's Club 1x is anyone's game. Anton Hoffman, bow 40, is new to sculling but has been looking very quick this fall. Bob Mannino, bow 6, has also been showing fast times this season. New to the field at bow 45, Ole Koerner, a German native now rowing for Austin Rowing Club could challenge the top of the field.
32B. Youth Men's Singles 8:39 AM
Separated into their own pack for the first time, the Youth 1x will be an exciting event to watch. Returning from 2012 at Bow 46 but leading this young school of scullers, Matthew Scholl of Orange County Rowing Association will have clean water behind the Men's Club event and will be looking to make it count. Local dark horse, Aidan Crawford at bow 74, has been racing the Charles in the Parent/Child 2x since age 12, experience that could threaten his greener competitors. Several very competitive scullers from Malvern Preparatory will be racing for gold. Bow 48, Lakin Vitton, won last week's Head of the Quinobequin handily, but will he be able to take consecutive golds on the Charles?
33A. Club Women's Singles 9:04 AM
This year's Women's Club 1x will be a race to watch. The 2012 returners will all be chasing medals. Bow 3, Erica Stevie-Caldwell, took home gold in the 2012 Women's Masters 1x. Bow 1, Michelle Prince, finished just outside of medal contention in 2012, but will be looking to use her shot at clean water to take home some hardware. Bow 8, Elizabeth Diamond, now rowing for Rocky Mountain, knows the Charles River better than most, but will need to keep an eye on those buoys.
33B. Youth Women's Singles 9:04 AM
Watch for many fast athletes in this year's Youth field. Adrienne Bielawski will start the field off at bow 25 after finishing 6th overall in the 2012 Club 1x. The Campbell sisters, Mary and Claire, at bows 28 and 30 respectively, will be looking to duplicate their top performances at last week's Head of the Quinobequin. Bow 45, Grace Beck, in from Minnesota, will be looking to demonstrate the strength of Midwest rowing.
34. Youth Men's Fours 9:26 AM
Always an exciting race, the Men's Youth 4+ will be one to watch in 2013. Sarasota Crew will be looking to take their title. Royal Shrewsbury School of the UK at bow 55 is the international dark horse in this event. St. Ignatius High School, bow 50, did well in their spring racing and will be looking to take a guaranteed entry back to Cleveland. NorCal, bow 4, will be looking to edge Sarasota out of the top spot.
35. Youth Men's Eights 10:24 AM
Marin Rowing Association is coming to defend its title for the 4th year in a row. Bow 4, Boston College High School, will be looking to keep the top prize home on the Charles. St. John's Jesuit High School, bow 66, boasts some of the top athletes in the school's history and will challenge top teams to take some hardware home to the muddy Maumee. They'll have to hold off Canadian crew, Shawnigan Lake, at bow 75, who have had their eye on the Charles since the fall of 2012.
36. Master Men's Singles 10:53 AM
Back on the Charles from Denver, Colorado, Peter Morelli at bow 2 will be one to watch in this event. Bow 3, Richard Montgomery, has three golds from the Men's Lightweight 1x and will be looking to add to his collection. Bow 13, Gerard Sheehan, is joining us from Shannon, Ireland, adding international flavor to this event along with bow 17, Daniel Knoblich of Germany. Douglas Connelly, bow 21, is the head coach at University of Vermont and could challenge from the back of the pack.
37. Master Women's Singles 11:05 AM
Bow 1, Monika Manios of the Netherlands could be the favorite to win this event after her second place finish in the 2012 Club Single, but she'll have plenty of competition. Bryna McConarty, bow 3, has shown great speed this fall, as has local sculler, Alexis Sneff at bow 2. Philadelphia dark horse, Shannon Kaplan, bow 15, could challenge from the back of the pack.
38. Youth Men's Doubles 11:24 AM
A strong contingent from Connecticut will be looking to take the top places in this year's event. Bow 2 from St. Catharines will be a force to be reckoned with, however. Bow 24, Skyline Crew of Ann Arbor, Michigan, took home gold at last spring's Midwest Championships and could be contenders for a top spot. Bow 31, St. Benedict's College, joins us from South Africa!
39. Youth Women's Doubles 11:40 AM
Elizabeth Sharis and Cecily Madden, who dominated this event in 2012, return with bow 1. Skyline Crew brings a strong 2x to this event as well in bow 31, but they could encounter some serious obstacles from the back of the pack. Joining us from the UK, Putney High School will be looking to make their mark on the HOCR, at bow 23. Keep your eye on bow 25 from Jacksonville, bringing a crew of identical twins!
40. Lightweight Men's Singles 11:59 AM
The men's lightweight field is heavy on competition. With multiple current and former national team members spread throughout the field, Adam Bliss (bow 1) will have his hands full. He joins the field after winning last year's club 1x event and his time will have him leading this pack of skinny scullers. Craftsbury sculler and current National Champion Hugh McAdam will also be in the mix after missing first in last year's regatta by just 1.1 seconds.
41. Lightweight Women's Singles 12:10 PM
Mary Jones will look to finish where she starts as bow #1 for this year's lightweight 1x field. She'll be followed by 2 boats from St. Catharines, Lindsay Sferrazza and Erin Snelgrove. Snelgrove represented Canada at the 2013 U23 World Championships in Linz, Austria. There is certainly an opportunity for a dark horse to get into the medals, and the scullers from Riverside Boat Club (Laurissa Gulich and Lauren Ayers) will take advantage of any missed strokes or wide turns on their home course.
42. Youth Women's Fours 12:25 PM
Bow 1, Marina Aquatic, is bringing back two athletes from their 2012 champion lineup. Pangbourne Nautics of the UK, bow 61, made it to the semifinal at Women's Henley and is definitely one to watch. Winsor Crew's top boat at bow 3 has strong Charles River savvy, which could help them best less experienced crews. Bow 16, Rockford Crew of Michigan, might have a thing or two to teach east coast crews.
43. Youth Women's Eights 1:22 PM
This event boasts a strong showing from the United Kingdom with crews from Putney High School, bow 62, and Heading School Oxford Boat Club, at bows 59 and 79. Saratoga returns at bow 1 to defend their title. Bow 70, Lake Oswego Community Rowing, has put together one of their strongest crews in years and could challenge from the back. Bow 5, Marin, a constant threat, will definitely be one to watch.
44. Master Men's Doubles (40+) 2:01 PM
James Dundon and Finbarr McCarthy finished 2nd last year. They'll have bow 1 since Smith and Gorriaran, 2012 winners, have moved up to the Senior Master category. Local favorites Rob White and Kevin McDonnell of Riverside Boat Club will chase at bow 2 and will look to improve on their 2 year streak of 3rd place finishes.
45. Master Women's Doubles (40+) 2:13 PM
Competition in this event-division includes a few former national team members led by last year's winners Cindy Matthes and Mary Mazzio, both 1992 Olympians. Members of Community Rowing's Military vet program – Laura Bajor and Alaine Blair – will start from the 15th position. 46. Championship Men's Fours 2:31 PM
Stanford University looks to defend last year's title, led by Austin Hack from the US 8+ who placed 3rd at the 2013 World Championships. USRowing will start 4th, with a crew including 2012 Olympian and four-time HOCR winner in the Men's Champ Double, Peter Graves. Cornell University who will start 19th and will look to work through the field with 2013 U23 Bronze Medalist Ned Benning in the line-up.
47. Championship Women's Fours 2:39 PM
This event will feature 2 entries from USRowing. One of which includes 3 of the 4 members from the World Champion straight 4. They'll chase down a proven group of Vesper athletes, including Yale grad Eliza Hastings and UVA grad Carli Goldberg. Hometown crew Riverside Boat Club (bow 14) will be stroked by international dark horse and Regatta Fellow Eliza van Lennep.
48. Championship Men's Eights 2:54 PM
This event is always exciting as the top collegiate men's programs go stroke for stroke against top international crews. The University of Washington will lead the field as bow #1, coming off of their 3rd straight National title in 2013. International entries include Melbourne University (bow 8), Pôle France Aviron Nancy (bow 4), Skadi Rowing Club Rotterdam (bow 5), French Rowing (bow 6), and OTC Amsterdam (bow 7). USRowing will start bow 26, and will look to build on their momentum from the World Cup and World Championship competitions this past summer.
49. Championship Women's Eights 3:06 PM
This event will be led off by the reigning HOCR and World Champions with the USRowing Women's 8. They'll be chased closely by the Cambridge Boat Club crew which includes Mirka Knapkova – Olympic Champion, Emma Twigg – World's medalist, and other high profile international athletes. Canada Rowing will start 4th behind UVA, last year's collegiate champions. Oxford University Women's Boat Club out of the UK will start at bow 38.
50. Collegiate Men's Eights 3:41 PM
Spectators will see some great racing with Dad Vail Champions Drexel starting at bow 4, ECAC and ACRA Champions Michigan starting bow #2, and last year's HOCR winners UVA leading them down the course. Boston College broke into the top 10 for the first time in club history in 2012 and will start this year as bow #10. The men's collegiate 8 will also have some competition from the UK, with crews from St. John's College, Oxford University(bow 31), and Downing College Boat Club, Cambridge (bow 38) joining the field this year.
51. Collegiate Women's Eights 3:59 PM
After winning in 2012 by 17 seconds, Trinity College will start as bow #1. They will certainly be pressed this year by NCAA DIII Champions Williams College (bow 3), and Dad Vail Champions Grand Valley State University (bow 4). With five straight NCAA second place finishes to Williams College, Bates College at bow 6 will be hungry to bring some first place medals back to Maine.
52. Lightweight Men's Fours 4:14 PM
After winning this event last year, NYAC will return at bow #1 with a nearly identical line-up. Club d'aviron de Boucherville, with Canadian Games medalists Jean-Francois Taillon and Hubert Blouin, will start bow 4 and are looking like a medal contender.
